چکیده

Pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) is one of the most important factors to affect the yield and quality of crops worldwide especially in wet harvest period. Breeding PHS-resistant cultivars has important implications to improve the wheat quality and production. The PHS is determined by environmental conditions, inner factors and interaction between these factors. We here reviewed recent advances influencing factors of PHS, including seed dormancy, seed coat permeability and color, á-amylase activities, endogenous hormones levels, genes and QTLs. The present article will provide basic materials for mining new genes and developing new molecular makers to improve the tolerance of PHS in wheat as well as increase wheat production.

Correction: Polymorphic Homoeolog of Key Gene of RdDM Pathway, ARGONAUTE4_9 class Is Associated with Pre-Harvest Sprouting in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Resistance to pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) is an important objective for the genetic improvement of many cereal crops, including wheat. Resistance, or susceptibility, to PHS is mainly influenced by seed dormancy, a complex trait. Reduced seed dormancy is the most important aspect of seed germination on a spike prior to harvesting, but it is influenced by various environmental factors including l...

Effect of Pre-Harvest Sprouting on Physicochemical Properties of Starch in Wheat

Pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) occurs when physiologically mature kernels begin germinating in the spike. The objective of this study was to provide fundamental information on physicochemical changes of starch due to PHS in Hard Red Spring (HRS) and Hard White Spring (HWS) wheat. The mean values of α-amylase activity of non-sprouted and sprouted wheat samples were 0...

Identification of Changes in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Seeds Proteome in Response to Anti–trx s Gene

BACKGROUND Thioredoxin h (trx h) is closely related to germination of cereal seeds. The cDNA sequences of the thioredoxin s (trx s) gene from Phalaris coerulescens and the thioredoxin h (trx h) gene from wheat are highly homologous, and their expression products have similar biological functions. Transgenic wheat had been formed after the antisense trx s was transferred into wheat, and it had b...

Improving preharvest sprouting resistance in durum wheat with bread wheat genes

Preharvest sprouting (PHS) of durum wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum (Desf.) Husn.) is an important problem in Japan, where the rainy season overlaps with the harvest season. Since there are few PHS-resistant genetic resources in durum wheat, we introduced an R-gene for red seeds, the MFT gene, and the QPhs-5AL QTL, all of which are associated with PHS resistance, into durum wheat from a PHS...

Detection of QTLs for traits associated with pre-harvest sprouting resistance in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) is one of the serious problems for wheat production, especially in rainy regions. Although seed dormancy is the most critical trait for PHS resistance, the control of heading time should also be considered to prevent seed maturation during unfavorable conditions. In addition, awning is known to enhance water absorption by the spike, causing PHS. In this study, we con...
